Who wrote the editorial review for Amazon on this one? Were they trying not to sell it?

This book is awesome. It is a great source of basic understanding of our founding fathers and our government. It's easy to read and exceptionally informative.

This is a must read for all Americans! In it author W. Cleon Skousen reveals how the founding fathers built this great nation. Following the principles of man's Natural Law and how these relate our disposition to our fellow men, America became the model Republic of the entire world! Each of the 28 Principles start with a clear explanation of its reasoning followed by an expansion and narrative of its historical founding and implementation. The author also reveals to the reader what the outcome will be if these principles are dynamically driven by progressive thinkers who aggressively try to change them to accommodate the current trends in our country. In essence, these eternal or cosmic principles if followed and not broken will ultimately yield the grace and strength to maintain our present Republic. Written with simplicity and a deep yearning to share its valuable concept, the author moves the reader to rethink the questions of our responsibilities to God, Family and Country, the essential tenets of all real societies.

This is an excellent book with surprising information, so I gave it 5 stars. HOWEVER, the man chosen to read this book sounds like Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. Anyone reading this book is obviously educated, so why would the reader read as if he were explaining it to children? I love the information, but really have to struggle through the reading.

5 out of 5 stars Require as standard curriculum in school!   January 19, 2009

Glenn Beck said that Ronald Reagan mentioned that he would like to see this book as required reading in every school. I couldn't agree more with that sentiment than I do right now while I am only halfway through the book. Just the first couple of chapters would teach more to students in school about the purpose and foundation of our system of government in America, and the constitution it was built on, than what the majority have been exposed to in their first 12 years of school for the last 30+ years.

This volume is a complete eye opener.

What's more, is that it is written in a completely accessible way. Each topic is covered in a compelling way and the arguments are laid out concisely and extensive supporting material is referenced in the bibliography (crucial for this kind of work).

I got my degree in History and while the nuts and bolts facts were all there for me in my college education, this book connects the dots at such a level that you truly begin to feel the bigger picture come together - from that, a true understanding of the intentions of the founding fathers comes through.

As Americans, we are the inheritors of a great gift. This book will help you understand the true nature of that gift in a way that all Americans should, but most have not.

So many like to believe that the founders were out of touch with our modern concerns. Not true. When you read what the founders were concerned with, what they feared and what they wanted to protect our nation from, you will be amazed at how much of that ties in to things we face today.

I have read through this volume twice since receiving it 13 days ago. In the cases where I questioned its conclusions, I have chased down the extensive references provided and found it to be spot on every time.

If you are someone interested in the founding fathers and our unique constitution, but you just don't have the time to read the dozens of books out there on all the various players in the making of our nation, this is an AMAZING place to start. You are going be impressed with the vision of our founders and their amazing understanding of human nature and where it can lead. You will often feel as if they are talking to you through the years about what is happening right now.

If you are a crusty old guy/gal like me who has read TONS of the works out there on this subject, this one will highlight all the truly salient points and connect the dots in ways you may never have seen before.

Buy it now, buy it often.
